What are Master Portfolios?

  • Master Portfolios are designed to help you get started with building your own portfolio.
  • There are five example portfolios depending on your aims and attitude to risk.
  • The underlying funds are selected from our Wealth Shortlist, a list of funds chosen by our analysts for their long term performance potential.
  • You can tailor each portfolio by changing the percentage invested in each fund according to your own preferences.
  • Once you’ve built your portfolio you’ll need to regularly review it as we don’t, for example, rebalance back to the original fund weightings, or reinvest income for you.

How do Master Portfolios work?

The portfolios are designed as a starting point, and whilst each fund is professionally managed, the overall responsibility for selecting and managing the portfolio rests with you. We will send you updates with our latest views on each of the component funds to help you with this.

The portfolios are not personal advice - if you're unsure whether an investment is right for you, contact us for financial advice. All investments fall as well as rise in value - you could get back less than you invest. For this reason we suggest investing for a minimum of five years.

Funds are used to describe unit trusts and OEICs. Each fund has a fund manager or management team, which might invest in cash, fixed interest securities, shares, property or even a mixture. Funds are unitised so that investors buy and sell units.

Unit trusts and OEICs are usually available for purchase either directly from the fund manager or at a discount through a fund supermarket platform. The structure and pricing of the investment will vary according to whether it is a unit trust or an OEIC. are selected from our Wealth Shortlist, a list of funds chosen by our analysts for their long term performance potential.
